This page is for those in the East Anglia region who have Aspergers Syndrome. How ever many people with AS outside East Anglia don’t have a social group or charity that may cater for their needs, so in order to bring more Aspies together, make new friends and share experiences I have created this page for you to join in with us.

Please visit the Asperger East Anglia website and read more about what we do, but unfortunately Asperger East Anglia is unable to provide help outside the East Anglia region, However members of the Social group you will probably meet on this page will no doubt offer you their own experiences, help and friendship.

So how can I tell if a person has Asperger syndrome?


SYMPTOMS.

Socio-communicative difficulties.

Being a loner.
Being active but odd.
Being aloof or passive.
Poor or exaggerated eye contact.
Solemn/serious expression.
Lack of empathy.
Naivety.
Difficulty with group work in a classroom or in team sports like football.


Children with AS respond better to adults than to their peer group.

Unable to initiate small talk but try getting them to stop talking about their special interest.

Language difficulties.

Speech may be delayed.
Literal understanding of language.
Idiosyncratic language.

Rigidity of thought.

A love of routine with extreme distress if it changes
unusual play patterns e.g. lining toys up or taking them apart.

Tendency to read factual rather than fiction books obsessional interests.

Common Obsessions.

Pylons.
Maps.
Gadgets.
Train spotting or any factual subject which they can immerse themselves in.

Gross Motor Movements

Clumsy.
Poor co-ordination e.g. catching a ball or being accident prone.
Flapping movements or nervous tics may walk with a lumbering stooped gait.

Other Asperger syndrome Traits.

Higher than normal anxiety levels.
More interest in things rather than people.
Hyper or hypo sensitivity to temperature/noise/smell/touch.
Independent or creative thinker.

I've always had a liking for magnets and not I've got an infeasibly large collection of GeoMags (Wow who'd of guess looking at the pics :P )

But Photography has got to me my main interest. Never leave home with out a camera, you never know what you might see. (Or in my case not lol those who know me well will get that joke :P )

im 18 yr old female off dx wid aspie late dx at 14 yrs old i suffer wid a range of mental health probs includ. depression, anx, paranoia, demanding suicidial voices/ urges inside of me! there loads more personal info about me i have got msn live on that alot if need to caht and talk about nyfink wozing or bothering u at all1 as i understand ov!lol

GOAL Group:

As far as I can tell since Paula Stone left Asperger East Anglia the GOAL group lost cohesion.

But Me David, Simon, John and Varin have our own GOAD group where we get each other out going places and doing thing.

It’s not run by anyone or have no leader, we decided on a shared basis and try to fit everyone’s needs with in the one day. If this isn't possible that persons plan becomes the first in the next meeting.

The next Adult group is 20th of September. I've started a craz of who cam make the craziest GeoMag Sculpture, come along and see what we get upto.

it is a spin off from the official Asperger East Anglia’s Thursday social group, but you very welcome to leave comments, experiences, funny moments or share those embarrassing aspie moments.
